Hello All,

I am currently in the process of converting all the data at chess-knights.com to be compatible with the chess engine supplied by phpchess.com.

This new chess engine is far superior to the one we are currently using, and is virtually error-free.   Now that the software from phpchess.com is released free and is under the  gnu/gpl license, I can do this.  However, I have no plans to release my modifications to the general public.  The changes I am comtemplating will be ONLY for my site at chess-knights.com.

Basically, the plan is to take the best from chess-knights.com and combine it in the phpchess framework.  This will make the new site more secure, while at the same time giving players the many benefits that a full-featured play site can offer.

Very soon now,  I will begin implementing this change on my test site.  When the test site is ready, I will ask for volunteers to test the new implementation.  If you are interesting in helping to test, please let me know by adding a comment to this post.

thanks,

Nelson

Although The Chess Knights will not be completely ready by August 15, I have decided to open the site on that date, sometime in the evening. When the site is back online and open to members, you will see registration links in the menu at the top of the page, along with a login box.

Basically, the areas not yet ready are Languages, the teams competition area, Live Games, News (a new feature), and the Player League (another new feature). There may also be a few display problems with some of the pages. Rest assured, however, that most of the unfinished areas will be updated and/or added within a week.

Regarding Teams, when I open the site, you will be able to form teams and add team members. However, please do not start any team matches until I finish the Teams League feature (more on this later).

Areas which are functioning: Casual Games, Round Robin tournaments, Swiss Tournaments (Swiss Tournaments is working overall; I will, however, be adding a few features to swiss tourneys in the coming days), forums, private messaging, Challenges, and several other features.

One major departure from the ‘old’ site is the fact that the phpNuke cms will no longer be used on the new site. You will find that the site is much faster as a result.

As I said above, the site will not be completely ready. However, the basic functions are working, and I will not delay any longer in opening the site to my new and old chess friends. I hope to see everyone soon!

Hello All,

Unfortunately, I had to delay opening chess-knights.com for two weeks. Simply too much to do before I can open that site’s doors. My apologies for the delay. :(

Paul Morphy: Unofficial World Champion, 1837 – 1884

Paul Morphy

Paul Morphy

Paul Morphy was known as “The Pride and Sorrow of Chess,” and was generally considered to have been the strongest chess master of his time and an unofficial World Champion.

Morphy is considered the first modern player. He played open games almost to perfection, but he also could handle any sort of position, having a complete grasp of chess that was years ahead of his time. Morphy was a genius who intuitively knew what was best, and in this regard he was much like Capablanca. He was, like Capablanca, a child prodigy.

His Games: Below is a database of his selected Unannotated games.

One can do much worse than to study the games of this chess genius! :)

Welcome to Chess-Knights.net!

This site is, more than anything else, my personal blog. On this site I will publish my thoughts and feelings about a number of chess-related topics, including articles relating to my play site, which can be seen here:

http://www.chess-knights.com

This blog is now open for comments and member registrations. It was not at first, since I wanted to put up some spam blocking. Please note that comments and posting in the forum here requires member registration and login, but that is painless enough…lol. Please bear with me while I build this blog, and also while I rebuild my play site at Chess-Knights.com.

The Front page of this blog will show you the most recent Blog posts on this site. To view other articles written on this blog, simply click on the appropriate category in the Categories menu or the Page in the Navigation menu on the right side of the page.

I hope you enjoy your visit here. :)
